Are you excited? Microsoft Windows Midori (Windows 8) is the next generation OS.
According to Microsoft
There’s a seemingly related (related to Singularity) project under development at Microsoft which has been hush-hush. That project, codenamed ‘Midori,’ is a new Microsoft operating-system platform that supposedly supersedes Windows. Midori is in incubation, which means it is a little closer to market than most Microsoft Research projects, but not yet close enough to be available in any kind of early preview form.
What’s also interesting about Midori is who is running the project. One-time Gates heir-apparent Eric Rudder is heading up the effort. Midori is being incubated under Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie’s wing. ‘Everyone under him (under Rudder on Midori) is a multi-year vet, has a super fancy title, and is going back to their roots and writing code like they probably did in the old days,’ one Microsoft tipster told me.
When and how Microsoft will roll out Midori is still a mystery. But it sounds like the company thinks the project is serious enough to dedicate a considerable amount of time/people/resources to it.
So that’s it. We are waiting.

Anyone got any Windows Midori screenshots? :)

How funny would it be if this whole “Midori” thing turned out to be a large scale Mojave?

Sounds very nice. Hopefully this will also be a revolution for security as well.

I just saw in the paper this morning that Midori will be a subscription based service. In other words, you’ll have to create a account and pay a fee every month to use it. I don’t know if this is true or not, but if it is, I’m not sure many people will jump on the bandwagon with this one. And I can already hear the complaints of PC manufacturers who will have to sell PCs that requires a monthly fee to be operational.
I hope this isn’t true.

Windows Suck’s, large life to GNU / Linux :) !!!
Good luck Bill Gay, (gates)
August 7th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Wonder what bugs are in it?
August 8th, 2008 at 5:58 am
Mr X above says commens on Bill Gates as Bill Gay. I dont see the need for this coment Bill is a great guty and he took microsoft to were it is today. Now hes resighned look whats happening. There developing this.
In my opinion this new idea is a pile of crap. Monthly subscription for a computer?. Haveing to rent program instead of buy them. If your internet goes down know you can still use your computer play a game on it and so on. In this new idea if the internet is down evreything is.
Not to mention that evreything you do will be storred on a microsoft server. This in my view is the worse idea that microsoft have had. Yes it has some very cool features like its new Kernal thats sounding cool and stuff like that. Nut the bad points just way out the good ones.
If this idea goes ahead and i hope it dosent. But then again microsoft is a smart company and should make a right decision.
I hope this dosent mean they go bust(They wont theyve got billions in the bank). If it does go though then i just hope that the market becomes competative like it was when microsoft was starting up when we had amigas windows macs and so on to choose from.
The way for microsoft i think is it stop developing windows and start a new superior os wich will have backwords compatabilty with xp and vista. With a new name so that people dont think it is windows.
I dont meen to say this is what they should do this is just my opinion.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Hopefully, it will not disappoint Windows users like Vista did. Lets create the biggest revolution in OS history ever by windows 8.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Looking forward to Windows 8.
August 10th, 2008 at 10:20 am
They should make this a Unix. More portability, a huge developer base and a good standard. Midorix? Xenix 2.0? Anyway, [GNU/]Linux and BSD need competition anyway.
P.S. Have a look at this:
http://widefox.pbwiki.com/Kernel%20Comparison%20Linux%20vs%20Windows
It’s non-biased, but in general shows that Linux is better overall.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Very nice Midori… Looking forward to Windows 8 !
August 13th, 2008 at 6:22 am

August 15th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
??? We don’t know anything about Windows 7 and you guys talk about Windows 8 ?!!!
August 18th, 2008 at 2:20 am
Midori is not Windows-based, so I don’t think it will be named Windows 8.
Another mistake: The codename is “Microsoft Midori”, not “Microsoft Windows Midori”
August 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
hopefully it’ll b better that ubuntu else tuff …
way 2 go FOSS :)
September 7th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Ok, this is all wrong. You guys are dumb, the reason this project is so huge is because it is NOT Windows. They’re starting from scratch and getting rid of all the bloat and old legacy code that makes Windows so slow and turning it into a brand new operating system. I’m not looking forward to Windows 7 anymore now that I’ve heard of Microsoft Midori. Unless they start over using the code from Windows XP instead of adding to Windows Vista, I really don’t care about the future of Windows.
Apparently, Midori will be released between Windows 7 and 8, but Windows 8 should be the last version of Windows if they’re even going to make it. I’m looking forward to the end of Windows, because all it is is a compilation of old code from all the versions of Windows to date. Think of it like a small snowball that gets bigger and bigger as it rolls down a hill until it grows out of control. Just imagine how fast this operating system will be now that they don’t have to worry about backwards compatibility that no one will ever use? It’ll become a new standard I hope, a fresh start. I think the reason it’s coming before Windows 8 is because people will need something to use while this revolution is happening.
Anyway, I’ve typed way too much.

The rumor going around that the new Microsoft “Midori” OS is going to require a fee every so often to use it is jsut retarted. Seriously, do you think microsoft is that dumb? They will have to store a whole lot of memory on THEIR own servers, not to mention that there’s microsoft users over seas. If they were going to put all that information on their servers, then they might as well buy out every wal-mart there is and make them their server rooms..
September 22nd, 2008 at 3:31 am
Hey, guys! Do you have some confirmed data about Midori?
Stop to distribute rumors about it!
‘Cause I want only right data. This project is very interesting for me.
Yo, brothers! Can you help me to choose a good Linux version?
On One site I seen Kiwi Linux, based on ubuntu and also there were other versions. THX

Anything to do with microsuck is 100% totally GARBAGE.thank you
October 3rd, 2008 at 5:46 am
I Accidentaly the whole Midori Project, is this bad?
October 20th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I protest! My name is Midori…this is like identity theft. I liked being associated with a nice drink. Not an operating system.
What the heck?
January 8th, 2009 at 5:13 am
And that is known now about this OS? And when will she approximately be let out?
January 9th, 2009 at 7:16 am
As far as I know, Midori is ment to be the FOLLOWER of Windows, not of Windows Vista in specific. So, “Windows” and “Midori” will be two completely different things. Midori is not “some kind of Windows” like Vista. Saying “Windows Midori” is wrong! It’s “Microsoft Midori”!
(Perhaps there will be a “Midori Vista” some time… ;))
January 27th, 2009 at 4:26 am
How do you consider, what will be Midor will differ from Windows 7 and from all previous Windows?
February 10th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Unfortunately there is already a browser called Midori, so M$ will probably have to change the name, if it is not actually Windows 7
June 30th, 2009 at 2:14 am
windows Vista and windows 7 Really did a number on the graphics and they gave the standard graphics card an uphill battle. will the windows Midori become even heavier on that department?
July 12th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Midori is a completely new operating system, it is not part of the windows series of operating systems to begin with! Also, do you have a source for your statement that it will be the next OS released by microsoft?
July 22nd, 2009 at 12:23 am
Skeptic where did you hear that? You can’t just say something without a source.
August 10th, 2009 at 4:02 am
anybody got screen shots of windows midori,i think this os change the future .
August 14th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
ya code name is midori.. but actual name of that.. Windows blackbox..
September 20th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
So Windows Midori will be could computing oriented. Does this mean it’s meant towards businesses to run off a server?
January 17th, 2010 at 7:05 am
hi every one and all my fans just to let you known that I have windows 7 and hope windows 8 will just as great
March 10th, 2010 at 7:02 am
Give Microsoft a break! They’re awesome and make great products.
May 20th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
For me, the best operating system is Linux because it rarely hangs.;*`
June 9th, 2010 at 9:22 pm
It would be funny if they completely redid Midori with BSD. That’ll be the second commercial OS coder to switch to BSD recently. The first being Apple. Would make sense most modern Windows Networking is based on BSD. They can’t risk borrowing from Linux or they would have to release the source. I do hope they update the VMS style subsystems though. Maybe they can take some hints from Wine and add real Linux/Unix functionality. Anyhow if Midori is anything like the Windows 2000 upgrade it will be fun at first with years of B$ to follow.
As far as the subscription base goes I am not sure I trust M$ with that much info. I’m still being spammed for registering Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 through the mail. :O
Guess it’s just wait and see. Oh and if it’s really the original old guys. Well those boys did nothing but write Basic interpreters and Hack DOS (an OS tutorial) after M$ bought it from the publisher.
Hmm just enough info to get the discussion started in a flame war and not enough to calm things down. Sounds like the new M$ to me. Propaganda until we finally see the product. Then ahh it’s cute, not really that super though. :)
